Boeing making progress on the Launch Vehicle Adapter, a new space transport system

Boeing Co. has achieved another milestone in its effort to build a space craft capable of returning humans to space. The structure, known as the Launch Vehicle Adapter, is being designed by United Launch Alliance (ULA). The design approval means detailed engineering work can begin. The first test flights of the spacecraft could come as early as 2016.
